We constantly want to be up to date with new developments being made for the tools and instruments we work with in our trainings. That is why last month Alexandra Georgescu, our Product Development Manager attended an event organized by our one of our global partners, Inscape Publishing International. We asked her to share some of the new things she found out.
Between the 26th-28th of May I attended a DiSC® international certification as partner of Inscape Publishing International.
I was part of a very diverse group of people, from Belgium, Sweden, The United Arab Emirates, South Africa and Germany. Six individuals with different areas of expertise and work experience that shared a common passion: developing people with the help of the DiSC® system!
Why is this system relevant?
With a history of almost one hundred years, the DiSC® system is based on the research of William Marston, regarding people's emotions and the wide array of responses to similar stimuli. In 1970 these studies were furthered by a group of scientists at the University of Minnesota among which were John Geier and Dorothy Downey. The results were configured into a personal profiling system using a report based on 24 questions. This is how the DiSC® system was born. What followed was a period of vast research and standardization.
Today the DiSC® system from Inscape Publishing is widely recognized as having the biggest partner network worldwide, products and solutions available in more than 25 languages and a database of more than 45 million individuals. Moreover, the research is continuous and in 2009 a new set of reports was launched in order to support individual performance.
In Romania Human Invest has been operating with the DiSC® system since 2007, especially in the area of training and personal development. In these last two years we've created a program aimed at improving communication skills with the help of the DiSC® system and even more we've had positive results in terms of building a common language, connecting participants to a process concerning adapting one's behavior as well as the motivation to act accordingly.
Why is it different?
It's a different system because it's based on research and validation in a large international partner network. It's a system supported by the quality of the feedback offered by a diverse and large group of clients. In comparison with other similar products it provides diagnosis concerning behavioral models as opposed to types of personality, building the necessary environment for behavioral adaptation. Because someone's personality has a higher degree of stability in contrast with behavior (seen as the way in which your personality manifests itself) which is more flexible and has a stronger correlation with the context, this instrument creates a prerequisite for changes that are both visible and easy to quantify.
Plus, for certified users, it's the only product of its kind that offers, beside the right to use it, a training package regarding the different aspects of understanding and implementing it. Certified users can deliver trainings without investing time in session and materials' design, because they benefit from the expertise of Inscape specialists in product development.
How can it help me?
DiSC® is a system that has excellent results in areas such as personal and team development. It can support the enhancement of communication skills, conflict management, sales, management and client service.
Even more, it also has a large scale use in recruitment as an instrument that fundaments and generates a greater depth of a behavioral job interview. It can also be used in coaching and one on one development as the backbone from which you can create change and development objectives.
It is therefore aimed at HR consultants (in house and external), recruitment consultants and experienced recruiters, people that are in charge of leading individual development processes as well as in house and external trainers.
In Romania and the Balkan area, Human Invest is the only Inscape Publishing partner. Therefore it is the only company that can offer DiSC® certifications, the next one is scheduled for 17-18 of September.
