FROM OUR EXPERIENCE
What should today's leaders know!
From our experience
Today we learn to lead! Today we learn to take the responsibility to lead, to go outside the comfortable environment in which you could redo the course when things went bad. Jobs for amateur managers were everywhere and management education was considered an optional "soft" task. The type of people who were promoted due to a favorable juncture, ill trained, lacking performance, the sort that didn’t put any price on loyalty or responsibility.

Things have changed overnight though! They will never be the way they were! Period! Developing professional abilities, managerial and technical has to be a personal priority for those who want to survive in organizations. Only then will we be able to understand words such as efficiency, responsibility, values and leadership. What was considered "optional" yesterday is now "mandatory", "instrumental" and "necessary", what was once "soft" is now "hard"!

Increasing the level of education, obtaining and demonstrating a superior level of key management abilities is a huge competitive advantage in today's world, for those individuals that are truly concerned with understanding the process of change and transformation in which we find ourselves today! Education brings with it creativity, builds self confidence and is the source of unconventional and atypical solutions, necessary for the times we find ourselves in. Darwin said it best "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, or the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change."

What are the three main management abilities that i consider crucial in this day and age:

1. Flexible management and the ability to sustain and encourage performance in all members of your team. How do I use the right style of leadership, depending on the situation? How do I increase and monitor performance through one to one and team meetings? How do I turn feedback into an instrument of growth not of reprimand? How do I reconnect and redirect my team towards the company or department priorities that are most important at one time? All these are part of an essential "management inventory"!

2. The ability to rapidly oscillate between reflection and action. "Observe. Orient. Decide. Act - The OODA Loop" was a tactic developed by John Boyd, a colonel in the U.S. Air Force and renowned strategist of air fights, between 1945 - 1975 (if you want to find out more click this link). Managers should know how to activate their survival instinct, which has remained dormant during the periods in which we proudly reported growths in business: today, changes are fast and unexpected, and well thought plans can crumble within a day or even an hour.

3. The ability to put company values into practice, transform them into ideas that bring energy and give sense to the work your people do. Whether it's a company, a football team or society as a whole - difficult moments bring out peoples characters and values. The good news is that these same periods are excellent opportunities for challenging and changing priorities when it comes to people's values and also reshape one's character. In difficult periods you learn to truly appreciate human values such as solidarity, team work, mutual trust, honesty. Managers today have a responsibility that is greater than ever, that of determining those they lead to rally behind company values!

No one has the answers right now - no matter how unclear they are. Those who say they have a clear picture of what to do, should reconsider. What we can do, is make sure that we increase the quality of our leadership everyday!
